Important note about upcoming parent teacher conferences:
Here is what we are learning about this week:
Writing: Continuing narrative unit, focusing on leads, revising by exploring what real author's do, being a storyteller and not a reporter
Reading: wondering/questioning, sequence and cause/effect
Spelling: last week of activities before tests (all will be the following week)
Math: take October math evaluate test, begin Ch. 5, Subtraction concepts
Social Studies: comparing/contrasting urban, rural and suburban communities
Upcoming events:
- Friday, October 11 is Ability Awareness Day. Students learn about people and types of disabilities but focus on what they are able to do. Last year, the topics that were discussed were visual impairments, autism and guide dogs. I have not heard what the topics are this year but assume they are similar. This event is roughly two hours. I will take pictures and post them to the blog. Be sure to ask your child about what they learned from the presentations!
- Friday, October 18 is an early release day because it is already the end of first quarter! School is dismissed at 11:50 AM so teachers have the rest of the afternoon to work on report cards.
Please be sure to sign and return last week's progress report and your child's writing sample. I really appreciate your cooperation. Thank you and if you have any questions, please let me know.
