Good evening!
Last week we were able to get outside to read and enjoy the sunshine. We also were learning about shadows in science, so we went outside to investigate how the sun appears to move across the sky. Before lunch, students traced a partner's shadow with sidewalk chalk and labeled it with the time. Right before we went home in the afternoon, we went back outside to find that our shadows had made almost a 90 degree turn compared to where they were originally. Everyone participated, enjoyed the sunshine, and learned about how the sun moves from east to west, which three things are needed for a shadow to appear, and how it is the earth that is moving (and not the sun!).
This week we will be learning about division in math, but everything else will essentially be review. The class will have a substitute on Thursday because I will be out at a meeting! We want to take it easy this week since the following week we will take the Communication Arts MAP test. Students are more than ready for this test and we are keeping a positive, calm attitude. Please do not forget to check the white envelope that I sent home with your child's report card! Last year I tried this and it went over really well. (If you have no idea what I am talking about, please see the white envelope in the binder!) :)
I will post more this week. Have a good one! If you have any questions about anything, please e-mail me! Please sign and return the signature portion of the report card. Thank you!
