Important Information about PRISM projects!!!
It's time for PRISM projects! In third grade, projects are not required but are strongly encouraged. All students who complete a PRISM project in my class earn a 1 for superior effort and extra credit in Science. A note will be coming home soon about the projects. If you would like to attend a Q and A session about PRISM, Long School will be holding a meeting on January 14th at 7 P.M. All projects will be due by Tuesday, February 14, 2014. They will remain at school until the night of February 20th, when they are on display in the gym and may be picked up! If you are familiar with the projects and would like a link to the information, click the links below:
Upcoming events:
- Wednesday, January 15, 2014 is a 1:40 P.M. early release day. Teachers will be meeting in grade level teams to work on our writing curriculum. Lunch will be served, but please make sure your child remembers how to get home that day. Students are encouraged to "dress to impress" (optional).
- On Thursday, January 16, Dr. Parker will be providing a pizza lunch for our class due to outstanding scores on our monthly evaluate test! Students do not need to bring any money but should bring an alternative lunch if they do not like pizza. They should also bring their favorite drink! Students who would like to buy lunch/drinks in the cafeteria will be allowed to do so.
- Friday, January 17th will be the new date for our math test! This test will unfortunately cover material learned before winter break... including chapters 7, 23 and 24. The concepts will be time, patterns and probability. Please use the math notebook or websites provided on the blog for review. A study guide will be coming home this week.
- There will be no school Monday, January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Here is what we are learning about this week:
Reading: making inferences about characters, character traits and comparing/contrasting
Writing: publishing our informational text!
Spelling: reviewing synonyms/antonyms, sorts will begin the following week (to allow time to study for our spelling bee participants)
Math: probability, review telling time and patterns, study guide and test Friday 1/17
Science: the water cycle and types of clouds
Lastly, I just wanted to say thank you again for all of the thoughtful gifts and cards for Christmas. I sincerely hope the thank you notes made it home, but if they didn't I just wanted to say thank you again! I know this was a long post so don't forget to scroll down and check the pictures and videos! Have a great week and Happy New Year!
