Good evening!
Please take a moment after reading this post to check out the photos from the first few days of school! In the photos below you will see our class working together as scientists exploring an ecosystem and as engineers building a free-standing structure. We have enjoyed several team building activities, developed our classroom rules together and have been avidly reading for 25 minutes a day in the cool A.C.! Even though we have been forced to play inside, we have been building our classroom community and getting to know one another by sharing our favorite things. The first few days of third grade have been fun!
Here is what we are learning about this week:
Important Reminders:
This blog will serve as our classroom newsletter, so be sure to check back often for important information. I will e-mail you once a week to remind you to check the blog. I usually update on Sundays. Have a great week and please let me know if you have any questions! Please feel free to leave comments on the picture posts below!

Here is what we are learning about this week:
- Reading: building a reading community, how to read like it matters!
- Writing: review of complete sentences and how to write a paragraph
- Math: Chapter 1- place value; comparing/ordering/expressing numbers up to thousands place
- Science: ecosystems and food chains
- The Seven Habits (Leader In Me): Habits 4,5,6,7
Important Reminders:
- If you have not turned in room party money, recorder money, or classroom magazine money, please do so. I will be turning in all forms and money to the office by the end of the week.
- Students brought home a new reading log this week. Please listen to your child read twice a week and check for fluency, accuracy or comprehension as he or she reads. I will collect reading logs every Monday and send home a new one on that day as well. You do not have to write the title of the book in the planner since we are writing on the logs in the binder. Please help your child fill out the reading log until it can be done independently.
- Long Lawn Day is this Friday. Students will need to wear tennis shoes and will be participating in activities in the gym during block if it is too hot.
- There will be no school on Monday, September 1, 2014 due to Labor Day.
- Here is a video that explains how to log in to the math textbook from home. We are currently studying Chapter 1, place value.
