After reading the weekly update, be sure to scroll down to see pictures from things that have been happening in 2nd quarter. We have been very busy learning all about multiplication. Students will take a test over Ch. 8-11 on Monday, December 9. They do not need to have all of the facts memorized by the test, but they do need to have a strategy for figuring them out. Over the last three weeks we have discussed drawing pictures, repeatedly adding, making an array, using a number line, and so on to find the product to unknown facts. We will continue taking short multiplication quizzes throughout the remainder of the school year to work on learning the facts. The next quiz will be Friday over the 3's facts.
Here is what we are learning about this week:
Reading: Non-Fiction text features, summarizing non-fiction, text structure
Writing: Informational writing
Math: TEST over Ch. 8-11 Monday, beginning chapters 7, 23 and 24 over telling time, patterns and probability this week
Spelling: All students will continue sorting words. We will have a test next week before break.
Social Studies: compare/contrast two Plains Indians tribes. We will begin a group research project this week.
Important Reminders:
- Wednesday, December 11 is a 1:40 P.M. Early Release day. Teachers will be meeting with their grade level teams for planning and goal-setting. Please make sure your child knows how to get home!
- Our winter party will be Friday, December 20. If you are organizing the party please let me know... I am unaware of who is in charge (which is fine) but I do have a few parents who would like to send in crafts/supplies.
- I will be sending home a progress report this Friday. It is almost time for report cards and the end of the quarter will be here before we know it.
Lastly, I have been working on moving links from the Moodle to the blog and class website to make all of our lives easier. My goal is to have this finished soon. The appearance of the blog might change a few times in the next few weeks, and it may be down from time to time. Thanks for your patience! I am also going to have a few student guest bloggers this week, so check back soon! Don't forget to scroll down for pictures. Thanks for reading and have a great week.
